LAWRENCEBURGH. The county seat of Dearborn county, is located on the Ohio river, C. I. St. L. & C. and O. & M. R. Rs, 25 miles from Cincinnati, and 89 southeast of Indianapolis. The city is incorporated, has a bonded indebtedness of $71,300, is lighted by gas, and is an enterprising, thrifty manufacturing place of 5,000 inhabitants. It has excellent public buildings, six different religious societies, first-class graded and high schools, seven hotels, two banks—and two weekly newspapers, the Press (Republican) and Register (Democratic). The manufacturing interests of the place comprise a saw mill, planing mill, coffin factory, flour mill (with 12 run of burrs), a brewery, pump factory, two distilleries, wheel factory, stove foundry, and four large furniture manufactories, prominent among which is the McLean rocker and easy chair, which is undoubtedly the best chair of the kind on the market. Among its principal shipments are carriages, beer, whisky, flour, furniture and wheels. Express, American, Adams, O. & M. Telegraph, Western Union. Has the usual mail facilities.
