The Fighting Boys in Blue met at the Universalist Church after the Grant Club closed. The meeting was called to order by R. C. Moore, and on motion Bela Herrick was chosen President, of the meeting, and Jas. Stevenson Secretary. After a few remarks, proceeded to elect officers, which resulted as follows:

Soldiers:–In obedience to your election made at Vevay, on the 10th inst., choosing me as your Colonel to organize and command the regiment of Fighting Boys in Blue in Switzerland county, I hereby assume the duties of the office with Head Quarters at Vevay, and ask your hearty cooperation in the work.

The following are Field Staff officers as chosen by you in Convention:

  • Lieut. Col., Theodore Livings, of Jefferson Township.
  • Majors, John W. Vanosdol, of Cotton Township; R. M. Lamp, sen., of Craig Township.

The objects of this organization are purely political, and such orders as may be issued are only recommendations aiming to unite us in harmony of action to promote the interst of the good work for which we are enlisted,–the election of our Great Captain Ulysses S. Grant, and Indiana’s Statesman, Schuyler Colfax—but these recommendations are put in the form of orders as souvenirs of the past.

We look to loyal citizens for the same sympathy and support that they gave us while we were in the field. Orders of organization will be issued forthwith.

Cotton Township, Switzerland County, Fighting Boys in Blue

Allensville, Ind., Sep. 4, 1868.

The Cotton township company of the Fighting Boys in Blue met here this evening. The meeting was called to order, and Andrew J. Works elected President, and A. M. Works Secretary.

After listening to a brief and effective speech by Theodore Livings, Esq., of Vevay, the meeting proceeded to the discharge of the business before it.

A. M. Works was appointed as a delegate to the Court Convention of the Fighting Boys in Blue, held in Vevay, Sept. 7, and Dr. John H. Vanosdol was announced as the choice of the company for staff officer.

The company then went into an election of officers. The following is the muster roll of the company as it now stands:

Fighting Boys in Blue.

Preamble.

The undersigned honorably discharged soldiers and sailors of the Army and Navy, in the Union, having served our country during the War of the Rebellion, with all the zeal and fidelity of which we were capable, and believing that the American Nation was saved by loyal bayonets and bullets, aided by the patriot policy and effort of the Union Republican Party, which sustained us at the front, kept down treason at home, protected and relieved our families and dependent ones, and laid the plan for a victory and triumphant peace, and regarding that glorious party as still worthy of the confidence and support of every true and tried soldier in the land, do hereby agree to organize ourselves to be known and hailed as the FIGHTING BOYS IN BLUE.
