VEVAY. This enterprising town of 2,000 inhabitants, the county seat of Switzerland county, is pleasantly located on the Ohio river, 100 miles south of Indianapolis and 75 below Cincinnati. The manufacturing interests of Vevay, are represented by 2 saw mills, 1 chair factory, 2 planing mills, 2 furniture factories, 1 brick yard, 1 flour mill and 1 woolen mill. It has no debt whatever, and is supplied with good county buildings, 5 churches—Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic and Christian—2 graded schools, 4 hotels, 1 bank and several substantial business blocks. There are published here 3 weekly newspapers—the Reveille, Times and Democrat. Vevay offers many advantages as a manufacturing point, and will give substantial support and a hearty welcome to any legitimate establishment. The chief exports comprise grain, hay and furniture.
