LAWRENCEBURGH. This manufacturing city of 5,000 inhabitants, the county seat of Dearborn county, is located on the Ohio river, 26 miles from Cincinnati and 89 from Indianapolis. It is traversed by the O. & M. and the C., I., St. L. & C. R’ys, which with the river facilities, gives it good transportation advantages. The city is lighted by gas, has a bonded debt of $71,300, 8 churches, 3 graded schools, 2 banks, 7 hotels, 2 weekly newspapers—Register and Press—and good county buildings and business blocks. This is an important manufacturing city, ranking among the first of its size in the State. Its most prominent establishments include 2 flour mills, 2 carriage factories, a planing mill, 4 large distilleries, 2 saw mills, 3 cooper shops, 3 furniture factories, a stove foundry, washing machine factory, brewery, hub and spoke factory, 2 brick yards, a wheel factory, coffin works, and The McLean Manufacturing Company’s works, who manufacture the celebrated McLean easy rocker, which is the finest of its kind in the market.
