Switzerland County Commissioners – Sep 1879

County Business.

The County Commissioners met last week in regular session. Present: Jacob Banta, Philander Morrison and Wm. Stewart.

Jacob H. Bruner, Joseph W. Burns, John W. Shirey, Joshua M. Scranton were granted licenses to retail liquors.

James P. Orem, Recorder elect filed his bond for $2,000, with P. C. Holland, James Cowan, Wm. Brindley, Wm. Culbertson, J. C. Bersot, Robert Scott, T. J. McKay, Joshua G. Coleman, Van S. Brandon, John Culbertson, Jacob J. Rickter, Ed. H. Weaver, as sureties.

Eli T. Ogle, retiring Treasurer, settled with his successor, Americus Benedict. Mr. Benedict filed a copy of the receipt which he gave Mr. Ogle, for $13,964.39.

It was decided that a bill be presented to David Armstrong, Guardian of John Corns, for keeping said Corns in County poor house four years—at $58.00-$232.00.

James V. Anderson and others petitioned for an appropriation to grade a road in Craig Township. $240.00 was appropriated to aid in grading said road, and making culverts.

Robert T. F. Abbott, Clerk elect, filed his bond for $10,000, with Silas Q. Howe, Silas Howe, and Charles Dibble, as sureties.
