ABERDEEN. With a population of 150, is situated in Cass township, Ohio county, 9 miles southwest of Rising Sun, the county seat, and most available shipping point. The village has district and private schools. Daily stage communication with Vevay—fare 50c.—and Rising Sun—fare 25c. Mail received daily. J. W. Fleming, postmaster.

Or Freedom, as it is sometimes called, is a place with a population of 25, located in Pike township, Ohio county, 15 miles southwest of Rising Sun, the county seat, and 13 north of Vevay, on the Ohio river, the most available shipping point. Contains two churches—Baptist and United Brethren—and district school. Stage communication with Dillsboro. Mail tri-weekly. W. H. Oatman, postmaster.

HARTFORD. Located on Laughery creek, in Union township and [Ohio] county, has a population of 100 and is distant 7 miles from Rising Sun, the county seat. Aurora, 7 miles northeast, is the most accessible shipping point. It contains Methodist church and district school. Receives mail tri-weekly from Aurora. Frank P. Ross, postmaster.

NORTH’S LANDING. On the Ohio river, in Randolph township, in the extreme northeastern corner of Ohio county, is a village of 250 inhabitants, distant 4 miles south of Rising Sun, the county seat. It has district school, Methodist and Baptist churches. Express, Adams. Daily stage route to Rising Sun—fare 10c—Patriot—fare 50c—and Aurora—fare 60c. Mail daily. Nathan H. North, postmaster.

RISING SUN. The county seat of Ohio county, is located on the Ohio river, 92 miles southeast of Indianapolis, and 38 below Cincinnati. This is a flourishing incorporated village of 1803 inhabitants, containing six churches—Methodist, Presbyterian, Christian, Universalist, Baptist and Lutheran—good graded schools, two hotels, a national bank, two weekly newspapers—the Local and Recorder—one planing, one saw and two flour mills. The place has a bonded debt of $6,400, substantial county buildings, good business blocks, handsome residences, live, wide-awake, business and professional men, and with its rich agricultural district and cheap transportation advantages offers especially favorable inducements to manufacture or commerce. It has daily stage communication with Aurora, its nearest rail approach. Express, Adams and O. & M. Mail daily. Eliza M. Spencer, postmaster.
