Vevay Public Schools Promotions – 1879

The Vevay [Switzerland County, Indiana] Public Schools promotions for 1879 appeared in:

Report of Vevay Public Schools, 1878-79.

The Public Schools in Vevay continued in session this year eight and one-fourth months. Five hundred and forty pupils were enrolled in the several departments of the school, distributed as follows:

  • High School, 43
  • A Grade, 45
  • B Grade, 55
  • C Grade, 99
  • D Grade, 69
  • E Grade, 51
  • F Grade, 73
  • G Grade, 83
  • German Department, 70
  • Colored School, 27

During the year there were seven examinations, one every five weeks. At the close of the school, May 16, 1879, the pupils that had made a general average of 80, and had not fallen below 60 percent, in any study, were promoted to the next higher grade or class.

The following is the order of promotion:
